Fundraising Idea Spotlight - Make Money With Car Washes

Practically, anytime is a great time to conduct a car wash.
Except, of course, during late Fall and Winter.

This is a great fundraiser for small nonprofits like ball
teams, cheerleading or pep squads, bands, or choirs to
conduct.
It could also be a great community "good will" builder for
larger organizations like Civitan or Lions Clubs, Chambers of
Commerce, volunteer fire associations and many others that
might overlook this as not just a fundraiser, but a "friend
raiser"

The secret to raising money at car washes is to provide a FREE
CAR WASH. You read that right. Free, but dependent on the
prior sales of tickets from donors that wish to sponsor your
group.

The sale of tickets provides any group with the ability to make
money from this fundraiser and only requires a limited amount
of volunteers to actually be at the car wash site.

Free Tip - Essentials For Increased Giving

Here are a few tips on how to increase giving among your
contributors. Please don't think that I'm trying to insult
your intellingence, because most of these tips will seem so
very obvious.

However, if you are like me, you are typically in such a rush
that you don't stop to grasp the obvious at times. So, just
consider these tips as reminders.

First, Always seek to upgrade your givers annually. Ask for
at least 10% above what the donor gave last year.

Second, seek to involve your donors more. Also, send a special
letter from the President, Executive Director, Chairman of the
Board, Scoutmaster, Cubmaster, or Committee Chair.

Try sending out a survey asking specific questions so that you
can get to know your contributors better. This one really does
work and could help you fix some potential problems that are
brewing yet you were unaware of.

Check out more ways for Giving Essentials that will help
increase your contributions.

Book Review -- The Artful Journey : Cultivating and
Soliciting the Major Gift

Fundraising has turned into a journey for most of you reading
this newsletter. Whether it's just a short-hop or a full
fledged nonstop adventure, I think that you will find this
book interesting.

It will give you some insight into what drives the people that
are really good fundraisers. Although, it might be rather
thought provoking for someone just needing to raise a few
hundred dollars, I believe most of you will begin to gather a
few ideas for your own specific fundraising efforts.

The author, William T. Sturtevant, mentions that the successful
fundraiser: will always make paramount the interests of the
donor, truly believes in the cause of the organization they
belong to, and never misrepresent the organization just to
get a gift.

He brings up areas of Sustaining Gifts, Collaborative Selling,
Cultivation, Fund Agreements, Major Gifts, Moves Management
and many more concepts than I can mention here.

I found his style an easy read. It was printed only five years
ago, so it is still a relatively new fundraising book. I gave
it a 4 (on a scale of 5).

Find out how to be the Artful Giver in your group.
