Fundraising Idea Spotlight - Treats To Sell -- GORP?
Have you ever just wanted a simple fundraiser that your youth
could participate in while teaching them salesmanship,
leadership, and entrepreneurship at the same time? Well,
here's
the perfect fundraiser for your organization.
Make your own treats to sell. An easy treat that is unique
and
delicous is called GORP. "Gorp", as all hikers know, is a
name
for a snack that can be eaten along the trail to keep your
energy up.
Gorp usually has an interesting assortment of non-melting
items such as nuts, raisins, dates, banana chips, etc. You
can usually pack them in resealable storage or sandwich bags
for ease of use before hiking. Use the same technique to
prepare your treat for distribution.
Imagine getting your youth together on one afternoon to
create these delicious treats. They will have an experience
that they will not soon forget.
I love looking for special food items that you can't normally
find at the local supermarket. That's why I am very excited
to introduce to you a new trend in fundraising product sales.
Purely American Gourmet Foods has all sorts of specialty items
that will really make your contributors sit up and take notice
of the many items that you can offer them.
They have gourmet coffee, Virginia peanuts, bean soup, pasta
mixes, handmade cookies, Native American popcorn, sauces and
marianades, cheese straws, chilis and bread mixes.
Their idea is simple. You give the special website for their
products to your supporters through your newsletter, flyer,
special coupon that you create, or by word of mouth. Your
supporters go to the website, purchase a product, and Purely
American will give your group 5% of the sale.
This is very easy to promote around special dates like Labor
Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day or Christmas time.

Book Review - Hidden Gold : How Monthly Giving
Will
Build Donor Loyalty, Boost Your Organization's Income, and
Increase Financial Stability
Developing a monthly giving program or Annual Campaign is one
of the best ways to provide financial stability to your group.
It allows you to budget items and plan for contingencies.
Hidden Gold will teach you about canvassing, how to ask for
a gift, communications tools, direct mail appeals,
electronic
fund transfers, and much more.
This book by Harvey McKinnon really does contain some Hidden
Gold. I was very excited to see some of the great ideas and I
know that you will be too. For smaller groups, this is one of
those "think out of the box" ideas. Utilize the many
resources
that Mr. McKinnon has laid out here and you will be well on
your way to finding treasures of nonprofit hidden gold.
I give this book a 4.5 rating (out of a high 5 rating) because
of the thoroughness of the ideas and resources explained.
