Scouting Fundraisers

Whether you are in the Boy Scouts, Explorers,

Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, or Venture Scouts...

if you are already selling popcorn, exposition

tickets, or cookies, then you can rake in

some extra cash for your individual troop

with unique fundraisers that fit with your

scouting program.

Keeping with a couple of the Boy Scout

tenants of A Scout Is....friendly and thrifty,

you can show the customers that buy these products from you that you are genuinely interested in them and to build up your troop in your community.

Your council needs the revenue that is generated from these product sales to offer many benefits to many troops, so keep this up. However, if you focus on the customer instead of the product you are selling, you will get a supporter for a long time.

Each of these products require an address from the customer in order to process the sale of the product. As each scout takes the order and writes this down on the order form, have them give the customer (even if they do not buy anything) a flyer telling a little bit about your group.

This can be in the form of a newsletter or announcement. Include photographs and your web address (click on the Homestead - get my free web site button below). More importantly, include a separate sheet in neon orange or some bold color your very own "Wish List".

Your troop's Wish List will have a listing of items that you need to buy such as tents, cooking equipment, lanterns, etc. And don't forget to put CASH on your list, with a few options like $1, $2, $5, $10, $15, and $20. Don't push it at this point to include larger amounts. And if they give, send them a receipt in the mail with a thank you note.

Then include a return envelope with your troop's address on it stapled to the newsletter. Using the address they provided initially, send them periodical newsletters including the option of asking to be excluded from future mailings.

Push them to go to your website for pictures of events and constant updates. Continue to promote your troop in this manner and you will create a large donor list over the next few years.
